It’s been two decades in the making but Troy and Cyndi Harrell’s dream has finally come to fruition. They recently hosted a thank you/open house celebration for their Dog & Pony Ranch in Jackson, California. They officially became residents of Amador County the end of last year but waited for better weather to have the celebration for the completion of their home and luxurious Gold Country vacation rental.
Just like everything else Cyndi does, the celebration was planned to the max. Early in the day there was hiking, basketball, games in the new game room, zip lining if you were brave enough, playing with your dog in the pond, and feeding the farm animals. Later, there was an open bar, a band, super patriotic decorations, a catered barbecue dinner, and an ice cream bar for dessert.
Cyndi and Troy purchased the 60 acres of raw land in 1998 and, over the years, developed the property while continuing to live and work in the bay area. When the house was finished in 2014, they opened it to guests but continued to work on their vision. In 2015, they started on the second part of the house that would become an awesome vacation rental intended for humans and their dogs.
The Dog & Pony Ranch was built from the ground up with dogs in mind. They aren’t just pet-friendly. They want you to bring your dogs. You can read all about all the things they took into consideration for your four-legged friend here and on their website. What I want to tell you about now is how pampered you, the two-legged human, will feel here. If you are looking for a Gold Country vacation rental, you need look no further.

Great Room and Dining Area
The great room is a very spacious room with a gorgeous vaulted pine ceiling and fantastic views. The comfortable sofas are so cozy for sitting in front of the fire or watching the big screen TV (or both). In one corner there’s a desk with a guest computer. The dining room, located on the other side of the spiral staircase that leads to the loft, seats six. Double glass doors open to a large covered patio and the artificial grass lawn that is perfect for playing fetch or practicing agility with your dog.
Loft
Up the log spiral staircase is the loft which has a full-sized futon that sleeps two. You’ll also find books, games and an awesome view here.
Multi-use Rec Room
This cool room features a fully stocked kitchen, another big screen TV and a queen-sized sleeper sofa. Double glass doors open on to a patio that is in the private, enclosed guest dog yard. The patio has a barbecue and table for outdoor dining.
Bedroom
The master bedroom is amazing. It has a vaulted ceiling and a California King canopy bed. The propane fireplace elevates the romantic mood. There is a hot tub outside the bedroom door on the covered patio.
Bathrooms
I LOVE the master bathroom. It has a double rain shower and a jetted deep soaking tub. There are remote controlled, colored, LED candles to create a soothing atmosphere for a long soak. I can just picture myself there with a glass of wine or champagne!
The elegantly rustic half bath is in the hallway off the multi-use rec room.
Keep in mind that, although the property sleeps six, there is only one full bathroom and it is off of the master bedroom.
The Grounds
The 60 fenced acres of Dog & Pony Ranch are perfect for hiking, with or without your dog. The views are spectacular and you never know what kind of wildlife you might run across.

There are many outdoor features that make this property even more unique as a Gold Country vacation rental. Here are just a few:
- Game room with ping pong, foosball, and a dart board
- Basketball court
- Horseshoe pit
- Fire pit
- Pond
- Picnic spot overlooking neighboring vineyards
- 7-acre pasture with horses, llamas and chickens
I’ve looked at a lot of vacation rentals online but none seem to quite measure up to Dog & Pony Ranch. It is truly a luxurious Gold Country vacation rental. Even if you live in the area, it is perfect for a staycation — you’ll feel like you are on vacation!
Pin It and Save for Later
Until next time…
This is an interesting concept for a resort. I think animal lovers will have a blast here. I wonder what the turkeys will think about it when the dogs are around?
Those wild turkeys are pretty predator savvy. The owners’ dogs live there full time but there’s plenty of places for the turkeys to hide.
This sounds like an interesting concept for a resort. That would be fun filled for the entire family.
This looks so cool! I love dogs friendly places. I feel like there aren’t enough dog friendly places!
